Prazer, I’m Vivian
I grew up with the silence of a language gap. My grandparents came to Brazil in the ’50s — and even with a bridge language between us, I never knew their songs, never got their jokes, never heard their whole story.
Today that gap is a wall: my grandmother has dementia and has returned to her first language. Our chance to bond is gone.
